Serbian PM Vows to Deepen Cooperation with Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić sent a congratulatory message to Dr. Hun Manet on his appointment as the new Prime Minister of Cambodia.

The message from August 30 stated, "Serbia is strongly committed to deepening cooperation with Cambodia and I am ready to make a personal contribution to this end."

"I am extremely pleased by the fact that ASEAN Member States recognized Serbia's strong interest in acceding to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) and I am convinced that the relations between our countries will continue to strengthen through comprehensive cooperation within ASEAN," she said. She went on to thank Cambodia for its assistance in helping ratify the treaty.

The Serbian prime minister also appreciated Cambodia’s membership in the Non-Aligned Movement, a coalition of 120 member states that are not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. She thanked Cambodia for not officially recognizing the statehood of Kosovo, who declared its independence in 2008. “The unwavering stance of the Kingdom of Cambodia on this issue…testifies not only to the friendship towards my country, but also to the consistent commitment of your country to the fundamental principles of international law,” she said.

She finished by extending an invitation for Prime Minister Hun Manet to visit Serbia at his convenience so that the two leaders can exchange views on furthering cooperation between the two countries.
